When you work out for any period of time, you will eventually hit a plateau. At that point you will grow frustrated because the huge gains you were seeing in your fitness suddenly slow down and may even stop altogether. At some point your body just adapts to the workouts.
There are many ways to get past a plateau. Basically you need to change up your workout routine, add new exercises or different exercise to stimulate your body. This does not mean to necessarily add more to your routine. If you are beginning a workout plan this may be the answer. But this blog post is more for those who are in shape and have just hit that wall.
Interval training is a great way to speed things up in your body. Whether its running, elliptical or swimming the exercise does not matter.
Break your cardio down to two to three minutes or hard work followed by a one minute rest. Push yourself hard to the point you are struggling to breath by the end of the two or three minute round. Similar to a boxer at the end of a round. Build yourself up to ten maybe even twelve rounds.
Make sure you heart rate is getting up higher than it is during your normal cardio workout.
By breaking it up and shocking your body with an elevated heart rate during your cardio routine you stimulate your workout routine and help you to get into better shape and lose more fat.
